About Blue Devil Lifting
As a club, we aim to promote fitness and strength by inviting students of all backgrounds to test their might in a physical setting. Students will learn to set SMART goals, and work to achieve them. The group setting will help hold them and others accountable and promote a community of growth and progress. Blue Devil Lifting strives to create a community of supportive gym-goers who lift others up, don’t judge, and are welcoming to all, no matter their fitness level. This club is a tool in which students enlist the help of their peers to bring about positive change.
Blue Devil Lifting was founded in 2016 Chuck Wanner. He believed that the school and the gym was lacking a sense of community. He saw the same people in the gym every day, but nobody would talk to each other or have fun in the gym. Chuck’s goal in making the club was to change that. He wanted to create a community that supported each other. He believed that lifting or working out with friends is a more enjoyable experience for people, and creating a space for that was a major priority for him.
There were many hoops he had to jump through to start the club, many many long meetings and paperwork, but finally Blue Devil Lifting was created. Despite long meetings and issues with the university and UREC, the leadership team is dedicated to making Blue Devil Lifting a worthwhile experience for every member. Currently, the club has triple the members it started with.
